Closer Look: Engineered Garments FW24 Sailor Pant

The Engineered Garments Sailor Pant reimagines the classic U.S. Navy “crackerjack” trousers, blending historical naval design with contemporary fashion. Traditionally, these naval pants featured a distinctive “broadfall” front secured by 13 buttons—a design choice that has spurred various theories, including the notion that the buttons represent the original 13 American colonies.

In the Engineered Garments interpretation, designer Daiki Suzuki simplifies this feature, reducing the button count to four for modern practicality. Additionally, while the original naval trousers had flared hems to facilitate easy rolling during deck duties and swift removal if a sailor fell overboard, Daiki opts for a straight-leg silhouette, offering a contemporary aesthetic that maintains the garment’s functional roots.

By thoughtfully updating these historical elements, Engineered Garments’ Sailor Pant honors naval heritage, delivering a versatile, fashionable pair of pants.

The Sailor Pant is available in the following fabrics:

  • Dark Navy Wool Uniform Serge
  • Black Cotton Brushed Herringbone
  • Olive Cotton Brushed Herringbone
  • Charcoal CP Brushed Cloth
