Nepenthes Los Angeles and Western Hydrodynamic Research continue their collaboration, this time applying WHR’s signature cord caps to a selection of Engineered Garments fabrics. Built with an understanding of material and function, WHR caps are defined by their construction—structured but unfussy, deliberately utilitarian, and designed to be worn in, not out. This project reinforces that philosophy, working with various seasonal Engineered Garments fabrics, each selected for its texture, weight, and character.
Two core variations emerge. The first, in deadstock Khaki Cone Denim and Black Cotton Ripstop, features WHR’s distinctive embroidery, adding a subtle mark to fabrics already chosen for their durability. The second takes a more pared-back approach—unembroidered caps that put the fabric at the forefront, maintaining WHR’s signature cord-and-grommet back closure but leaving the material to stand on its own.
Each fabric brings something distinct. Black Cotton 8W Corduroy offers depth and texture, Khaki/Blue PC Iridescent Heavy Twill shifts with movement, structured enough to hold its shape but sufficiently fluid to sit naturally. Navy Regimental Stripe Printed Corduroy plays with a classic yet unexpected pattern. Charcoal Cotton Floral Houndstooth and Red Tartan Check Print Corduroy introduce prints that reference tradition but remain versatile, softened by the cap’s easy shape.
WHR’s caps have always been about design through use—not overcomplicated, not overly nostalgic, just well-made and considered. The cord-and-grommet closure isn’t just a visual signature; it’s a functional detail that ensures longevity, an approach that aligns with Engineered Garments’ appreciation for durability and adaptability. This collaboration continues a dialogue between two brands that share a deep respect for material, process, and function.
