Engineered Garments and Nanga introduce a new Fall/Winter 2025 collaboration built around the idea of down outerwear that can transform freely. Nanga, a long-established Japanese down manufacturer based in Shiga Prefecture, brings its technical expertise to two innovative silhouettes.

The Detachable Down Coat is constructed in six modular components including sleeves, body panels and hood. Each part can be removed or reattached, allowing the wearer to adjust warmth, volume and silhouette as needed.
The Down Hoody functions almost like an accessory piece, blocking winter air while remaining lightweight and highly insulating.
Both models are waterproof and breathable for reliable performance in harsh conditions, and both feature a minimal design with no external branding.

“Puzzles, Lego blocks, Transformers—these were the keywords that came to mind when I began thinking about this down jacket. It’s a mutating down jacket that can be detached, added to, and freely transformed. Some pieces can be used depending on the purpose, while others are deliberately not needed. I aimed for a design that is playful despite its ordinary appearance.
The jacket is divided into six modules, and each piece can be worn on its own, or not. The possibilities are endless, creating styles that go beyond mathematical calculation. Even I, the designer, may have style ideas that I haven’t yet discovered.
I hope you enjoy wearing it however you like, without overthinking it. Turn it inside out, leave only half of it attached, or put it the other way around—you can have fun with it. Yet, at its core, it’s simple and serious. Down jacket or coat? This is a new piece that transcends boundaries.”
